Boylston School Committee Approves Superintendent Evaluation, Student Trips to Puerto Rico and Canada

BOYLSTON — October 12, 2022 — Boylston School Committee approves superintendent as proficient and clears two student travel trips. The board unanimously rated Superintendent Rich Maher proficient with high impact on student learning for the 2021-2022 school year, citing strong budget management and capital navigation while calling for improvement in middle-high school culture, scheduling, and AP performance. The district posted MCAS results 20 percent above the state average in grades three through eight math and 16 percent above in science, though writing scores in those grades fell 25 percent below 2019 levels statewide, mirroring a state trend. The committee approved 2023 student trips to Puerto Rico and Canada and adopted second readings of two school policies. Three community members — Annel Benson, Kim Theriault, and Lindsay Malone — introduced a proposal to launch a lacrosse program at the middle-high school, citing more than 30 interested students and coaches already in place, with a full presentation planned for November.
